There are many drag-and-drop, instant website solutions available. Choosing one that will best serve you in the long-run can be overwhelming. If you don’t know what questions to ask you may commit to a platform that cannot be easily optimized for search engines or easily upgraded to a fresher look.
Over the years, we have dabbled around with various platforms and have happily settled on WordPress and here is why:
- It will be here forever.
It is an open-source platform, which means that developers all over the world are collectively working on its stability and compatibility. Hosting companies also offer one-click installations of WordPress on their servers, which is a pretty solid endorsement of the platform.
- It is cost-effective.
There are a plethora of free themes and free plugins from which to choose to obtain the functionality you need.
- Everyone knows it.
WordPress is used all around the world, which also makes it easier to find a competent webmaster. For technical issues, there are also many support forums available.
- Search engines favor it.
WordPress has built-in blogging functionality. Websites that make us of this and are regularly updated with relevant, quality content automatically earn “search engine juice”, which organically, and over time, ranks them higher in search engine results pages.
There are some considerations, though:
- It does take some getting used to, because it is not as simple as a “drag-and-drop” option.
- It is open-source. This means frequent updates from the many authors of the core program and also the various plug-ins that have been installed for your site.
The bottom-line is really whether your time is best spent on webmaster duties or activities that allow you to grow your business.
