Toastmasters(R) must be the world’s best-kept secret! (At least that was the case for me a few years ago.) If you ever wanted to be a more effective communicator or hone your leadership skills, this is where you can practice as you grow.
Toastmasters is an international organization. Its mission is to “provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth.”
Members expand their skills through presenting speeches, providing constructive evaluations, extemporaneous speaking opportunities, mentoring others, and filling functionary (timer, grammarian) roles at club meetings and more.
Being an actively participating member of a Toastmasters club will equip you with communications and leadership skills that you can take into the world: running businesses, mentoring others, acing presentations, running fund-raisers, coaching teams and heading up families.
There are thousands of clubs all over the world. Some clubs are sponsored by corporation and open only to employees. Other clubs, and this may be the majority, are open to the public. Each club has its own culture and is generally comprised of members from diverse backgrounds and age ranges. Open clubs always welcome visitors!
